"An elephant never forgets."
It's said so often it's stopped sounding like praise. But think about what it actually asks of a creature — to carry every face, every loss, every place it has ever stood, without the mercy of erosion. We treat forgetting as a flaw to fix. For her, it was never available. She remembers the drought. She remembers the ones who didn't make it through it. She remembers you, specifically, the way you were the day you met, not the way you'd prefer to be remembered now.
What would you carry, if you were never allowed to put anything down?
Ink on white paper, 80 gsm, 21×21 cm · "It's Time for Africa" series.
