The One They Followed

He never asked to be the one they'd follow.

Somebody has to walk first, though,

has to decide the field ahead is worth the risk of crossing it.

Not the strongest. Not the fastest.

Just the one who kept going when going felt impossible,

and turned, once in a while, to make sure the others still were too.

Leadership, mostly, is just refusing to stop.

He left one world to find another and brought everyone with him.
